The trail running event in the "Diamond of the Alps." Reach new heights at the Glacier Trail Run in Gurgl, which takes place on technically demanding trails at altitudes between 2,000 and 3,000 Meter. With breathtaking glacier views of the Ötztal valley always in sight, participants in the "Glacier Trail - 62K" distance, for example, will tackle an impressive 61.1 kilometers (with 3,600 meters of elevation gain).

Disclaimer

By registering for the Gletscher Trailrun, the participant acknowledges the disclaimer of liability from the organizer for damages of any kind. They will not make claims against the organizer and sponsors of the event or against the owners of private paths or their representatives for damages and injuries of any kind that may arise from their participation in the event. They declare that they have trained sufficiently for participation in this competition and are in good physical health. The organizer and their team are responsible for the proper and safe conduct of the race; therefore, participants must follow the instructions of the organizing team, legal authorities, doctors, course marshals, and aid station staff. If a concerning health condition is noted by the organizers, the participant may be removed from the race. Furthermore, they confirm that they have liability and accident insurance. They agree that the data provided in their registration, along with any photos and video recordings taken of them, may be used without compensation claims. They assure that the stated date of birth is correct and that they will not transfer their start number to third parties. In case of cancellation due to force majeure (bad weather, etc.), the entry fee cannot be refunded. The organizer reserves the right to postpone start times of the respective events or make changes to the routes for specific reasons.

Rules & Safety

Participants have no claim to closed roads and routes. They must comply with the provisions of road traffic regulations and yield to all vehicles and other road users. Participants are personally responsible for violations and accidents resulting from non-compliance with these regulations. They must follow the instructions of the police. Vehicles may not be parked in forest paths or areas. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense.

Cancellation & Transfer of Entry

Changes to another distance are possible until 10.07.2025, with payment of the difference in the entry fee plus a processing fee of €5.-. If a distance is sold out early, a transfer is no longer possible. A corresponding notification must be sent to the organizer. The following cancellation conditions apply for the Glacier Trailrun 2025:

  • For cancellations up to eight weeks before the event start, participants will receive a 70 % refund of the entry fee.
  • For cancellations up to four weeks before the event start, participants will receive a 50 % refund of the entry fee.
  • No refund of the entry fee will be made after the deadlines mentioned above.

Transfer of the start number (entry transfer) is only possible if officially communicated to the registration office, happens on the same route, and is completed by the official registration deadline!

FAQs

Getting there

You can reach Obergurgl either by car or public transport. By public transport, take the train to Ötztal Bahnhof station and then continue by bus to Obergurgl. The bus runs every half hour throughout Ötztal valley. Furthermore, a free shuttle service is offered to the start of the Glacier Trail - 42K.

In Obergurgl, there are central parking options subject to a charge. These are located at Festkogl Gondola's base station and in the parking garage of Obergurgl's village center.

Camping is only possible to a limited extent. It is strongly recommended to book official campsites within the valley. You can find all important details about camping options HERE.

Important note: Wild camping is not permitted anywhere in Ötztal valley and will be officially reported and prosecuted by the authorities!

Before the Start

The mandatory gear for each distance can be found HERE.

Free clothes transport to the finish area (Hohe Mut Alm) will be provided for all participants in the Top Mountain Run.

Please note: clothing bags must be dropped off at Gurgl Carat in its start package pick-up point by 17:00 on race day.

A backpack storage area is also available in the start/finish area from 1:30 to 18:00 for the races on Saturday.

Start packages can be picked up at Gurgl Carat on the following days:

  • Thursday, 16 July 16:00 - 20:00
  • Friday, 17 July 10:00 - 19:00
  • Saturday, 18 July 5:30 - 11:00

The following cancellation policy applies to the 2026 Glacier Trail Run:

  • For cancellations up to eight weeks prior to the event, participants will receive a 70% refund of the entry fee.
  • For cancellations up to four weeks prior to the event, participants will receive a 50% refund of the entry fee.
  • After the above mentioned deadline, entry fees will no longer be refunded.
  • Transferring a start number (giving it to another participant) is only possible if officially notified to the registration office, if it takes place on the same race course and occurs before the official registration deadline!

Changing your registration to a different distance is possible until 10 July 2026, upon payment of the difference in the entry fee plus a € 5 processing fee. If a trail category is fully booked in advance, it is no longer possible to change your registration. Please notify the organizer accordingly.

Late entries are possible on-site up to one hour before the start of the respective race (only for distances with available start places) - an additional € 10 late entry fee applies (Top Mountain Run: additional € 5 late entry fee)

During the Race

The refreshment stations are listed on the detailed pages for each route. They offer a selection of water, isotonic drinks and suitable snacks such as fruit, energy bars as well as some hot meals. Detailed information will be sent to participants via email.

After the Race

On Saturday, showers are available free of charge at Gurgl Carat.

After successfully finishing the Glacier Trail Run, the results and certificate downloads are available at: https://my.raceresult.com/369761/results

On Saturday, 18 July, from 6:30 to 15:00, a comprehensive program with up-to-the-minute previews, split times, interviews and the best pictures and images of the competition will be streamed live on the Ötztal YouTube channel.
